What Is the Gospel?
The gospel – which means “good news” – is God’s announcement that people who are far away from Him may be brought near by the work of His Son, Jesus Christ. The Bible teaches us that God created everything and is the Ultimate King. He is holy and perfect. All people by nature and choice have rebelled against God, but instead of leaving us to deserved punishment, He sent His Son to redeem us.
The heart of the gospel is the death and resurrection of Christ. He died to bear the penalty for our sins – For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 6:23). Christ defeated sin and death on the cross. The proof of this is His bodily resurrection on the third day. Christ’s resurrection gives a sure hope of eternal life to everyone who believes this good news that God has sent His Son as the Saviour of the world.
