What to Expect

At Edson Baptist, our week revolves around our Sunday morning worship service, which begins at 10:45 am. When you attend church at Edson Baptist, you’ll find a laid-back atmosphere. We are a church whose focus is God and His Word, not how people look. Come in jeans and a T-shirt or dress up a bit – however you feel comfortable.

When you arrive, you will be greeted by an usher and given a bulletin. If you have small children, the ushers can give you directions to the nursery and information on our Jr. Church program.

Bring your Bible if you have one, but if you don’t, pew Bibles are provided and page numbers are announced for Scripture readings so you can follow along. We use the English Standard Version of the Bible, but people who attend use a variety of translations, particularly the New International Version and the King James Version

Here are some key elements of our service:

  • A message from the Bible. We value expositional preaching. What does that mean? Simply put, it means that we want to hear a message from the Bible – that the main point of the message is the main point of the text of Scripture that the preacher uses. The Bible is God’s Word, so we gather to hear what God has to say to us through the Word preached.
  • Lots of Scripture: We have a call to worship near the beginning of the service, a Scripture reading from a different place in the Bible than the sermon’s text in the middle of the service, and a benediction at the end of the service.
  • Prayer. We need to receive from God, we need His help, and we want to give Him praise for who He is and thanks for what He gives us. For all of these things and many more, we address Him personally in prayer as we gather.
  • Plenty of singing. We sing newer songs and old hymns – we strive for the best of the old and the new. We do have worship teams with guitars, drums and keyboards.

Near the beginning of the service, a church family news and announcement time and a children’s song highlight our connection as a community of believers.

Before the service, you are welcome to attend Bible classes (link) for all ages at 9:30 am (from September to June). Join us after the service for a refreshment time of snacks and coffee and some great discussion as we get to know each other better.

Families are welcomed and cared for at Edson Baptist. Worship together with your family in the morning service. There is a Nursery provided for babies to age 2. Ages 2 – 5 enjoy their “Junior Church” – a time of singing, games, stories, crafts and playtime during the sermon time.
