Pastor’s Blog

Pastor Terry Stauffer has been writing at the New Lumps blog since November, 2005. Why New Lumps? Granted, it is a strange name, but it has a serious biblical connection. Regarding the urgent need for holiness in the Corinthian church, the Apostle Paul wrote,

Cleanse out the old leaven that you may be a new lump, as you really are unleavened. For Christ, our Passover lamb, has been sacrificed. (1 Corinthians 5:7, ESV).

In a sense, he is saying, “Be who you are.” This is similar to the gospel logic of Ephesians 4:1 where he writes, As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received, or Philippians 1:27 which says, Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Because of the gospel, because of the power of God in salvation, we can live new lives of increasing holiness. So, if you are a Christian, you are to be a New Lump. The power to be new and pure is not from our own effort, but from Christ who gave Himself for us and redeems us by His own blood.
